Bibio’s Phantom Brickworks

Stephen Wilkinson, better known under the stage name Bibio, announced the forthcoming release of Phantom Brickworks, a nine-track collection of mostly improvised musical pieces expected on 3rd november on Warp. you are invited to preview Phantom Brickworks III and Phantom Brickworks III (edit) and follow Bibio among dreamy autumn landscapes provided by the artist himself, who directed a spectral video for the occasion.

“I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe places can be haunted by meaning. Places change, not always for the better and not always by natural, benevolent or politically sound means. A place can be charged with atmosphere because of what it has been through or what it has been.”

Bibio supervised also the making of the limited edition of Phantom Brickworks, a double vinyl with inner and outer sleeves printed using a hand-inked letterpress, which is unfortunately already out of stock. however, you may pre-order more widely available formats, including a standard edition of the double vinyl, here or here.

Behind the Shadow Drops

Behind the Shadow Drops is the new solo project of Takaakira ‘Taka’ Goto, founding guitarist of the fantastic instrumental band MONO. formed in 2016, the project integrates many different forms of music, most notably ambient, trip-hop and other minimal musical elements, and will soon give birth to a first album named H a r m o n i c.

expected on 22th september on Temporary Residence, the album features drums, percussion and programming by John McEntire (Tortoise and The Sea And The Cake) who also mixed the album, as well the fabulous Helen Money, a very impressive rock cellist, who toured with Russian Circles last year.

the first single Positive Shadow, Negative Light directed by Julien Levy offers us an elegant spectral journey under the stars.

you may pre-order H a r m o n i c  by clicking on the above album cover.

The Hour After Sunset

the nugget of the day goes to Ensemble Economique’s demo The Hour After Sunset, a new track that Brian Pyle (half of Starving Weirdos) published a few minutes ago, directly inspired by his brainy and shining thirst for cinematic, droning glides. this amazing outer-space track goes directly to the head, providing perfect disquieting pedal effects that seem to set the imperativeness of an immediate action. The Hour After Sunset is a perfect companion to a quiet but enrapture evening.

Ensemble Economique has released his 12th album In Silhouette on Denovali Records in late march, and despite the fact we haven’t listened to it yet in its entirety, the new album depicts strong images of some ethereal wide grey yonder, made of subtle textures suspended in the air, which are ready to blossom into a mass of weightless flowers.

we were very lucky to discover Ensemble Economique at Denovali Swingfest Essen in 2014, and since we are genuine fans of EEc’s heady atmospheres, we invite you to open your ears (and eyes) to this handsome live concert captured at the Les Yper Yper Gallery on the same year.

Oiseaux-Tempête’s AL-‘AN ! الآن

alan_ot

another demonstration of rage and discontentment is expected on march 31st, another statement that will for sure meet our endless appetite for melancholic promenades and restrained expressions of anger.

AL-‘AN ! الآن (And your night is your shadow — a fairy-tale piece of land to make our dreams) is the title of Oiseaux-Tempête‘s new album that will be released in a little month on the belgian label Sub Rosa. for this third part of a journey around the Mediterranean opened in 2012, Frédéric D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul travelled to beirut to work with local musicians, and surrounded themselves with Mondkopf, Charbel Haber, Sharif Sehnaoui, G.W. Sok and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, among others.

the first track unveiled, Carneval, shows sumptuous anxious patterns common to Oiseaux-Tempête and Mondkopf. this new track manifests clearly that the band keeps discovering new territories, offering their post-rock mark a brighter spectrum and a flight of genuine poetry.

Oiseaux-Tempête’s forthcoming album

our favourite birds are currently working on a new album recorded for the most part in beirut, with the collaboration of Mondkopf’s Paul Régimbeau, along with G.W. Sok, Karkhana’s Sharif Sehnaoui and Mendelson’s Sylvain Joasson, among others. expected in march 2017 on Sub Rosa, their third opus was announced by this inviting teaser directed by Grégoire Orio & Grégoire Couvert (As Human Pattern).

Régimbeau will also contribute to the anticipated concert at Saint Merry Church that Oiseaux-Tempête have in the pipeline in november. the evening will provide the lucky attendants with a rich variety of inspiring compositions, thanks to the support of Karkhana and Moshé O’Grady.

pg.lost: view from the inside

discovering the studio of a band, gaining a real insight, is not an everyday thing. admiring a few superb posters on a room walls, representing Ghost or Khoma for instance, and enjoying two amazing songs, this is the gorgeous tv-program prepared today by pg.lost who present Off The Beaten Path and Ikaros live from their studio, taken from their latest album Versus.

an almost 15-minute reverie, in company of hooting, rough guitars, but also sirens vocals, an indisputable energy charger, definitely more enjoyable than a tedious box of vitamins.

pg.lost will join forces with Mono and Alcest, on the occasion of their forthcoming co-headlining european tour. here is the entire schedule.
